PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Rage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Foster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tom Foster!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Foster keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Foster uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rage.
Rage just misses with a punch to the body.
Rage moves in looking to clinch but Foster pushes him off.
Foster blocks the body kick.
Foster avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Foster gets the takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rage is looking for a sweep.
Rage dodges the ground and pound from Foster.
Rage is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Foster lands a nice forearm strike.
Rage takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Rage on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Rage is trying to control Foster's posture but Foster avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Foster tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Rage manages to work his way to half guard, despite Foster's best efforts.
Foster missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Rage is trying to stand.

Foster moves into full mount! Rage won't be happy about that!

Foster trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Rage is looking to get to half guard.
Rage is breathing heavily.
BOOM! Foster connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The referee warns Rage that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Foster prevents Rage from getting the reversal.
A nice elbow there by Foster.
Foster really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rage. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Foster scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Foster has control of Rage's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Rage regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Foster looking to control and managing it successfully.

Foster has hold of Rage's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Rage manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Rage holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Foster tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Foster can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rage is looking to escape.
Rage tries to hold on but Foster postures up.
Rage is desperately trying to improve his position but Foster has a good base and remains in mount.
Foster looking to control but Rage is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Rage really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Foster goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Rage is on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Foster dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Rage misses with a takedown

and Foster counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Foster.

Rage is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Rage looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Foster passes into side control.
Foster working the head and body with strikes.
Foster scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Rage to see if he's OK.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rage is not content to let Foster control the position.

Foster lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Rage down.

Foster decides to stand up, so the ref orders Rage to his feet.
Rage shoots for a double leg takedown but Foster sprawls well. He's pushed Rage's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Foster has taken the fight to the clinch.
Rage drops down looking for an ankle pick but Foster pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chuck Rage. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Foster gets a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rage has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Foster is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Foster escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Foster lands a jab-cross combination.
Rage has a takedown stuffed.

Foster feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Foster forces his way into half guard.
Foster misses with a head shot. Rage uses the momentum to regain guard.

Foster postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rage is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Foster, into his guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rage won't allow Foster to sweep him here.
Rage trying to control the position from guard on top but Foster is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Foster wants to get back to his feet but Rage is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rage wanted to stand there but Foster had control of the position.
Foster wants to stand but Rage is controlling the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rage clobbers Foster with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Foster throws a head kick that Rage semi-blocks.
Rage moves away from the strike by Foster.
Rage blocks a head kick by Foster.
A head kick by Rage misses
and Foster finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Foster showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Foster has closed the distance and engaged Rage in a clinch.
Foster tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rage just stands there and leans against the cage.

and Foster counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rage won't be happy with that.

Foster is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rage is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Rage manages to work his way to half guard, despite Foster's best efforts.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Foster is thwarting Rage's attempts to control the position.
Foster with the ground and pound but Rage uses the opportunity to regain guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Foster stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rage swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Foster content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Rage has locked up a guillotine! Rage's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Foster is holding on here and Rage must be using up a lot of energy. Foster has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Rage gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:25 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Chuck Rage!
