Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dillon Pittsenbarger! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Juan Garza! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garza lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pittsenbarger circles away quickly and effectively. Garza works Pittsenbarger's body with a nice hook. Pittsenbarger scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Pittsenbarger is looking to take a break and control but Garza is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Pittsenbarger advances to mount. Pittsenbarger controlling the pace for now. Garza wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Garza takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Pittsenbarger can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Garza is looking to escape. Garza's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pittsenbarger with a couple of short strikes. Pittsenbarger landing punches. Pittsenbarger raining down hammerfists from mount. Pittsenbarger controlling his opponent. Pittsenbarger lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Pittsenbarger with shots to the head and body - Garza looks very uncomfortable down there. Pittsenbarger lands with some strikes. This has been an exciting period of action! Pittsenbarger sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Pittsenbarger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Garza is bucking up trying to escape but Pittsenbarger cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Pittsenbarger trying to control but Garza is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Garza is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Pittsenbarger has taken his back! Pittsenbarger scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Pittsenbarger is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Garza with him. Garza is trying to defend but Pittsenbarger has an arm under the chin now! Garza grimaces and is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Dillon Pittsenbarger! An out of breath Dillon Pittsenbarger thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
