Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kelvin Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Preston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Preston has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kelvin Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jacob Preston! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Joseph Jones and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Preston tries to clinch up but Smith circles away and keeps his distance. Smith fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Preston sprawls well initially but Smith persists and gets the takedown into half guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Smith trying to pass the guard but Preston defending well. Smith prevents Preston from standing back up.
Preston slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Smith is breathing heavily. Smith content to stall in guard here. Smith stopping the sweep attempt from Preston. Preston wants to stand but Smith is controlling the position. Smith controlling from the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Preston wants to sweep but no luck. Smith has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Smith trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Kelvin Smith wasn't doing enough on the ground. Preston throws a combination. Smith tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Smith drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Smith cracks Preston with a big elbow. Smith is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Preston is trying to control Smith's posture but Smith avoids it. Preston is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Smith is controlling him well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith takes a little break here. Preston wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Smith has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smith prevents Preston from escaping the position. A lull in the action here as Smith stalls from top position. Smith working away. Preston is trying to get back to his feet. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Smith is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Preston's shoulder. That is not cool.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Preston throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Preston doesn't manage to clinch there - Smith circles away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Smith shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Smith showed some decent athleticism there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Smith is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Preston has managed to free his arm - good work. Smith is looking to take a break and control but Preston is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Smith stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Preston to get to his feet. A slow jab from Smith misses its intended target. Preston thows a body kick. Smith tries to catch it but that hurt him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Preston connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Preston fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Smith. Preston is looking to clinch but Smith is avoiding it.
Preston lands with a nice combination. Smith backs away looking to recover. Smith looking to score a takedown here. Preston is defending well but Smith drives through and ends up in Preston's guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Preston is looking to stand up but Smith isn't so interested in that idea. Smith preventing the sweep. Preston is pulling down on Smith's head. It's preventing any offense from Smith, at least for the moment. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Smith's corner is telling him to maintain position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kelvin Smith dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
A slapping leg kick lands for Preston.
Smith closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Preston quickly recovers to half guard. Preston wants to control but Smith is keeping busy.
Smith is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Preston is pressing down on Smith's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Preston is trying to control the position but Smith postures up. Preston being controlled here, momentarily. Smith decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Preston, up you get! Preston lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith instigates a clinch. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Preston wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Smith ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Smith no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Smith keeping moving, preventing Preston from controlling successfully. Smith has Preston pulled in close to control his posture. Preston would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Smith has control of Preston's left arm, preventing Preston from doing any damage. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Smith shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Preston pinned against the cage. Preston gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Kelvin Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Preston moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.

Preston felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. This has been an exciting period of action! Smith is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Smith is keen to just control but Preston is a slippery customer.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Smith throws a head kick but Preston moves out of range.
Jacob Preston seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Preston fails with an attempt to clinch.
Preston tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Preston wants to clinch and Smith counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Smith. Smith gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Preston regains guard.
Smith is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Smith seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Preston has his feet on Smith's thighs here. He's pushed Smith off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Smith screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
