Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Scott Sopoaga! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sakke Salasana! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Illya Tyunina and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sopoaga throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Salasana sees it coming and avoids it easily. Sopoaga feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Sopoaga trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Salasana pulls Sopoaga in close to prevent any damage. Salasana working for submissions but it's allowed Sopoaga to get to half guard.
Sopoaga prevents Salasana from improving his position. Sopoaga tries to pass to full mount but Salasana defends it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Salasana is trying to maintain the position but Sopoaga is very close to passing his half guard. Salasana kicks off Sopoaga and gets to his feet. Sopoaga throws a right hand that Salasana ducks under and follows up with a left that Salasana also avoids with ease. Sopoaga throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Sopoaga looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Salasana is fending him off so far but Sopoaga persists. Nope, Salasana circles away and we're back to standing. Sopoaga misses with a straight left.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Salasana ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Sakke Salasana seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sopoaga has a takedown stuffed. Sopoaga is breathing heavily. Sopoaga swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Salasana slips a jab from Sopoaga. Salasana lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Sopoaga is rocked! Salasana moves in looking to clinch but Sopoaga pushes him off. Oh Sopoaga is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Salasana lands with a right that hurts Sopoaga. Sopoaga looks to clinch but Salasana throws a short knee that drops Sopoaga. This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch and Knee). Sakke Salasana!
