Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Donovan Bagcal! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marco Macotti! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Macotti misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Macotti fails with a takedown attempt. Macotti fails with the takedown. Donovan Bagcal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marco Macotti. Macotti goes for a double leg but Bagcal avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Bagcal continues to drive forward. Bagcal lands a damaging elbow. Macotti has Bagcal pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Macotti pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Bagcal tumbling to the mat - Macotti dives into Bagcal's guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Macotti cracks Bagcal with a solid left hand. Macotti makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Macotti throwing strikes but missing. Macotti connects with a couple of short punches. Macotti tries to free his leg and advance position but Bagcal is retaining full guard. Macotti with a nice head shot there. Macotti with a flurry of punches that miss. Macotti keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bagcal's head. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Macotti working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Macotti thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Macotti postures up in Bagcal's guard and throws a big left but Bagcal blocks it. Bagcal working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Macotti. Macotti postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Bagcal is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Macotti, into his guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bagcal tries to free his leg and advance position but Macotti is retaining full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Macotti is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Macotti wants to sweep but no luck. Macotti uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Bagcal looks to land a combination but Macotti avoids it well.

Bagcal stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bagcal wants it to stay on the feet. Bagcal leaves Macotti with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Bagcal tries to bum rush Macotti with a series of wild strikes but Macotti uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Bagcal throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Macotti misses with a takedown attempt - Bagcal sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Macotti shoots in looking for a takedown but Bagcal manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Macotti's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Macotti has a takedown stuffed. Macotti is breathing heavily. Macotti looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Macotti tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bagcal sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Macotti somewhat. Nice takedown defense from Bagcal. No joy for Macotti on that attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A momentary lapse in concentration from Bagcal enables Macotti to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bagcal manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Bagcal is looking for a triangle but Macotti pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Macotti stands up and waves to Bagcal to follow him. Bagcal tries to score a power double leg takedown but Macotti sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bagcal somewhat. Macotti shoots in for a takedown but Bagcal shows good takedown defense.

It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Macotti manages to end up in side control. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Macotti is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bagcal has escaped the position, nice work there. Bagcal tries to improve position but can't. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marco Macotti showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Bagcal wants to get back to his feet. Marco Macotti is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Macotti has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
