The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souza swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Souza tries for a takedown but Bengazzoni sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Bengazzoni slaps away a takedown attempt from Souza, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Bengazzoni looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Souza throws his legs up looking for a submission but Bengazzoni uses it to pass to side control.

Bengazzoni has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Souza has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Souza tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bengazzoni paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Souza takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Bengazzoni cracks Souza with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Bengazzoni has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Souza to stand back up!

Bengazzoni lands a nice hook to Souza's body. Souza takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Souza goes for a double leg but Bengazzoni avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Bengazzoni continues to drive forward.
Souza seems to have recovered his senses.

Bengazzoni will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Souza closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bengazzoni circles away.

Bengazzoni sends Souza crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Bengazzoni is motioning to the referee to let Souza up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Benjamin Bengazzoni is winning the standup battle so far.
Bengazzoni sees an opening and throws a straight punch right through Souza's defenses. It connects perfectly with Souza's jaw and knocks him out cold! Wow - that's a contender for knockout of the year - absolutely brutal!
