Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Neto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mauricio Rua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Neto!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Paulo Santos and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Neto fails with the takedown.

Rua feints and as Neto raises his hands in defense, Rua changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Rua stands up from Neto's guard - Rua perhaps looking for a knockout.
Neto with a poor takedown

and Rua counters with a nice double leg into side control. Neto won't be happy with that.
Neto avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Rua.
Neto is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Rua asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Rua decides to stand up, so the ref orders Neto to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rua tries to close the distance and clinch up but Neto swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Rua counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rua.
Mauricio Rua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio Neto.

Rua is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Rua stands and steps away. Neto gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Rua fails in his attempt to clinch.

and Neto counters with a single leg into guard. Rua didn't expect that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rua throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Rua is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rua bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Neto's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rua wants to stand but Neto has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Rua is breathing heavily.
Neto wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Neto is on top in guard.
Neto must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Rua has his feet on Neto's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Mauricio Rua seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Rua scores a takedown into full mount!
Rua breaks from Neto's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Rua wants to take his opponent's back but instead Neto manages to regain half guard.
Neto trying to control from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rua closes the distance but Neto moves to the side

and Neto counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Neto decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Rua, up you get!

so Neto counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Rua keeping moving, preventing Neto from controlling successfully.
Neto wanted to stand there but Rua had control of the position.

Neto is looking to work some ground and pound but Rua has wrist control.

Neto stands and steps away. Rua gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Rua misses with a kick to the body

and Neto counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Rua's guard now.

Rua is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Neto avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rua being controlled here, momentarily.
Neto passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rua is staying active underneath Neto, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Neto is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Rua missing with punches from the bottom.
Rua is trying to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Antonio Neto showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Rua is working hard here to advance position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Neto decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Rua shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Neto not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Rua slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Neto tries to improve position but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

You can see the frustration on Neto's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Neto is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Rua has just dragged him back down to the mat.
A control attempt from Neto but he's now mounted!
Rua postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Neto looks a forlorn figure.

Rua goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Neto turns into him and now he's in Rua's guard.
Rua tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Rua doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Neto counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Neto.
Rua is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Neto dives into side control.
Antonio Neto has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rua is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Neto's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

And that's the end of the fight!
Antonio Neto comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Neto has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
