Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
26 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Tyrone Bate! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
16 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Fernando Egardo! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Sosuke Kotani and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bate connects with a body shot. Bate connects with the punch. Egardo is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Bate is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Egardo. Bate throws a hook but Egardo blocks it. Egardo misses the jab. Bate lands a jab to Egardo's midsection. Egardo gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Egardo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Bate tries to roll over but Egardo keeps him under control. Bate trying to control here.
Egardo throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Egardo throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Egardo connects with a nice short shot to Bate's temple. Egardo thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Bate is pressing down on Egardo's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Egardo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bate is keeping the position for now. Bate not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Egardo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Bate trying to keep a closed guard but Egardo is proving a slippery customer.
Bate seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Bate looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Egardo passes into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Egardo is looking to pass to full mount but he's left his head exposed in the process. Bate has locked up a guillotine and regained full guard. He's really cranking on it - this could be the end! Is it? Is it? No... YES! YES! He's tapped! I didn't think he was going to get it there for a minute but he did! Well done Bate! He waited for his chance and took it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Tyrone Bate! Tyrone Bate bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it. Fernando Egardo was interviewed post fight and said 'Give me another chance please'.
