Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matheus Moraes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Filladale Gilliper! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gilliper tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Moraes was well out of range. Poor timing from Gilliper. A telegraphed right hand from Moraes misses the target. Gilliper gets a clinch. Gilliper lands with a left to the head. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Gilliper creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Moraes is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Gilliper is defending well for now. Moraes looking to throw knees to the head but Gilliper is blocking nicely.
Gilliper lands with a left to the head. We've been hearing reports that Moraes has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Nice body punch from Gilliper - that landed with a thud.
Moraes with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Moraes tries to pull guard but Gilliper forces him back to his feet, against the cage. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Gilliper creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Moraes tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
A battle for position here, against the cage. A short right hand to the side of the head by Gilliper.
That's one minute gone in the round. Moraes pulls guard effortlessly. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Gilliper wants to stand but Moraes has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Moraes looking to control.
Gilliper should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Gilliper is posturing up here but Moraes has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Gilliper tries to roll out but it's too tight and Gilliper has to tap! Slick submission there by Moraes!
