PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Junior Duarte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Saltzman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duarte's entrance music is Shabba Ranks (Shabba Remix). A fine choice. Jon Saltzman is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Junior Duarte!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jon Saltzman!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duarte fails with the takedown
and Saltzman counters with a nice uppercut.

Saltzman shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Saltzman showed some decent athleticism there.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Saltzman trying to control the action but Duarte is working from the bottom.
Saltzman is nestled in close to Duarte, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Saltzman thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Duarte's head.
Duarte is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Bloodsport Gym 16 Elites , so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Saltzman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Duarte. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Duarte is refusing to be controlled, as Saltzman sits in half guard.
Saltzman seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Duarte is trying to control but can't.
Saltzman seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Duarte does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Saltzman thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Duarte is trying to maintain the position but Saltzman is very close to passing his half guard.
Duarte keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Saltzman is thwarting Duarte's attempts to control the position.
Saltzman throws a strike but Duarte avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Saltzman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Saltzman throwing strikes but missing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Saltzman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Saltzman throwing strikes from guard but Duarte blocks nicely.
Duarte is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Saltzman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Saltzman throws a strike but Duarte rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Duarte wants to control from the top but Saltzman keeps moving.

Saltzman wants to stand but Duarte is controlling the position.
Duarte wants to pass the guard but Saltzman is keeping the position.
Duarte engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Junior Duarte just wasn't active enough.

Saltzman gets a double leg takedown into Duarte's guard.
Duarte avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Saltzman chips away with some ground and pound.
Saltzman lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Saltzman slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Saltzman trying to control but Duarte is working from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Saltzman makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Saltzman dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Saltzman closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Duarte quickly recovers to half guard.

Duarte will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Saltzman works over Duarte with some ground and pound from guard.

Duarte looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Saltzman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Saltzman not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Duarte has hold of Saltzman's hands but Saltzman slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Saltzman connects with a nice short shot to Duarte's temple.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Saltzman lands a nice short elbow.

Saltzman looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Saltzman lands with a punch from half guard.
Saltzman not doing much here.
Duarte blocking the ground and pound attempt from Saltzman.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Saltzman lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Duarte regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Saltzman.
Saltzman distracts Duarte with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Duarte controls Saltzman momentarily but Saltzman frees himself.
Saltzman keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Duarte's head.
Saltzman wants to control from the top but Duarte keeps moving.
Saltzman with a nice head shot there.

Duarte is looking to cinch up a triangle. Saltzman throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Duarte's body to avoid the submission. Duarte has instead reached around Saltzman's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Duarte arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Junior Duarte!
