Barretto comes into the arena with Last Man Standing - By 4ft Fingers blaring out of the sound system. Mitsuyo Maeda has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barretto thows a leg kick but Maeda checks it and Maeda decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Barretto's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Maeda looking to pass the guard. Barretto is adopting a defensive guard. Maeda is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Maeda chips away with some ground and pound. Barretto is pulling down on Maeda's head to control his posture. Barretto wants to hit a switch here but Maeda passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Barretto there! Maeda unloading with bombs! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Maeda lands a big elbow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maeda cracks Barretto with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Maeda wants to control the pace but Barretto is squirming around nicely. Maeda wants to finish this one by submission but Barretto is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Maeda. Barretto working to try and regain half guard.
The referee warns Barretto that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Barretto is rocked! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Barretto regains half guard. Oh Barretto is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Maeda is pressing down on Barretto's thigh, looking to free his foot. Barretto is holding on for now. Barretto seems to have got his legs back now. Maeda passes to full mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Barretto takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Maeda lands a big elbow - Barretto is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Barretto is forced to tap out!

He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him. Roque Barretto was interviewed post fight and said 'Get outta my face'.
