PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Wright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Master Floppzzy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Alex Wright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Master Floppzzy!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Paul Tew and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Floppzzy blocks a head kick by Wright.

Wright closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wright lands in his opponent's guard.

Wright has gone for a leg lock! Floppzzy slips out almost immediately though and dives into Wright's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Floppzzy pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wright is keeping the position for now.
Wright doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Floppzzy drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Floppzzy jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Wright seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Wright tries to strike from the bottom.
Wright wants to sweep but no luck.

Floppzzy drops back, looking for a kneebar! Wright looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Wright looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Wright!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Wright working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Floppzzy is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Floppzzy parries the strikes from Wright easily there. Wright is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Floppzzy to escape.
Wright lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Floppzzy down.
Wright tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Wright creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Floppzzy sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Floppzzy stops Wright from passing to mount.
Floppzzy is trying to get back to half guard.
Wright knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Floppzzy on the ground.
Floppzzy is not content to let Wright control the position.
Floppzzy prevents Wright from improving position.
Wright misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Floppzzy tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Wright trying to control the position but Floppzzy is working away.

Wright is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Floppzzy is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Floppzzy tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Wright wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
You can see the frustration on Floppzzy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Floppzzy has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Floppzzy might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Wright haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Floppzzy is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Floppzzy manages to get back to half guard.
Floppzzy wants to control but Wright is keeping busy.
Wright is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Floppzzy gets full guard.
Floppzzy trying to control the position.
Floppzzy looking for a sweep. Not yet Floppzzy, not yet.
Wright's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Floppzzy is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Wright wants to control from the top but Floppzzy keeps moving.
Wright won't allow Floppzzy to sweep him here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

We're going to have a standup here because Alex Wright wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Floppzzy gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wright accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Wright dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Wright slaps away a takedown attempt from Floppzzy, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Wright throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
No luck for Floppzzy with that takedown attempt.
Floppzzy shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Wright defends it nicely.
Alex Wright has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Master Floppzzy.

Wright clinches up against the cage.

Wright is trying to trip Floppzzy. He has hold of a leg but Floppzzy is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Wright persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Wright trying to control but Floppzzy is working from the bottom.
Wright might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Wright postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Floppzzy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wright is one step ahead there.

Floppzzy is looking to cinch up a triangle. Wright throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Floppzzy's body to avoid the submission. Floppzzy has instead reached around Wright's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Floppzzy arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Master Floppzzy!
