Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gregorio Olson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dyga Daler! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Daler will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Daler shoots in for a takedown but Olson shows good takedown defense. Gregorio Olson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Daler moves into the clinch successfully.
Olson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Excellent takedown into side control there by Daler. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Daler landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Daler trying to control the action but Olson is working from the bottom. Olson is being controlled here. Daler is looking to take a break and control but Olson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Olson struggling a bit here. The strikes coming from Daler are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Daler goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Olson has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Daler but great work by Olson. Olson working away. Olson swings around for an armbar but Daler sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Olson's guard. Daler pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Olson is keeping the position for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Daler throws a strike but Olson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Olson throws a big elbow that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Daler not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Olson wants to control from the top but Daler keeps moving. Daler has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Olson has passed into side control.
Olson wants to control for a moment but Daler uses the opportunity to move back to half guard. Daler has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Olson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Olson not landing any meaningful shots this time. Olson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
This has been an exciting period of action! Daler looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Daler is not content to let Olson control the position. Daler is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Olson pulls his head out easily. Olson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Olson lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Olson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Daler looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Daler avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Olson. Daler is looking to control Olson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Daler avoid being mounted? Daler is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Olson pulls his head out easily. Daler looks winded! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Nice strikes from Olson there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dyga Daler dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Olson instigates a clinch. Olson has Daler pressed against the cage, preventing Daler from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Olson has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Daler clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Daler breaks Olson's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Daler looking to pass the guard. Daler forces his way into half guard. Daler seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Olson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Daler content to control rather than advance. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Daler. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. Daler wants to lay and pray for a moment but Olson keeps working. Olson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Daler on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Daler is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Daler is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Olson sees it coming and defends easily. Daler trying to mount his opponent but Olson defends it. Daler is breathing heavily. Olson trying to control here.
Daler has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Daler looking to control but Olson is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Dyga Daler has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Olson has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Daler's lack of action.
Olson is looking for a sweep. Daler is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Olson tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Daler seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Olson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Olson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Daler is working away from the top position though. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Daler is just content to waste time from the top position. Olson takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Olson keeping moving, preventing Daler from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Daler postures up.
Daler stands and steps away. Olson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Olson drives through with a takedown into Daler's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Daler is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Olson rolls with it to try and escape but Daler cranks on the arm and Olson is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
