Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Per Svensson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jason Mason! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Marco Blurström.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Svensson swinging wilding here.
Mason wants to clinch up but Svensson keeps it at a distance. Svensson misses with a low kick. A good leg kick by Svensson. Svensson keeps the fight on the outside. Svensson cracks the inside of Mason's front leg. Mason looks gassed! Svensson throws a sloppy head kick and Mason moves out of range easily. Mason fails with an attempt to clinch.
Svensson buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
A combination from Svensson does no damage. Oh, that's a big right hand from Svensson and Mason goes tumbling to the canvas! Svensson follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.
It looks like Jason Mason has been cut. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Svensson is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Mason has managed to free his arm - good work. Svensson wants to take a breather but Mason is having none of it. Svensson thows a huge punch but Mason dodges it nicely.
Svensson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's one minute gone in the round. Svensson is tying to control. Mason wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Svensson works his way into side control. Svensson creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Svensson lands a few punches from side control. Svensson advances nicely into full mount. Svensson controlling his opponent. Mason is squirming around, avoiding Svensson's attempts to control the action.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Svensson working for a guillotine from mount but Mason is in no mood to give up. Svensson looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Svensson manages to capitalize on a mistake by Mason to take his back! Svensson tries to keep control of the position but Mason is staying busy. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Svensson working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mason tries to break free.
A lull in the action here.
Svensson is cranking Mason's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Mason! He's tightened the choke and Mason is tapping out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Per Svensson!
