Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rolf Byrd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Broken English! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Ben Hemmingworth and Ben Watson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! English scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Byrd controlling the position well. English is keen to just control but Byrd is a slippery customer. Byrd gets full guard. Byrd is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Byrd will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. English closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Byrd wants to improve his position but English is controlling well.
Byrd is doing well to control the position and prevent English from advancing to side control. English wants to lay and pray for a moment but Byrd keeps working. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Byrd is controlling English's trapped leg to prevent English from advancing to side control.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Broken English. English fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Byrd sprawls well initially but English persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Byrd preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. English seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Byrd tries to land a sweep but no joy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Byrd is controlling English's posture. Byrd keeping full guard, as English tries to pass. English must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! English trying to stand up but can't free himself from Byrd's guard. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Byrd holds on and takes a little breather.

English prevents Byrd from getting a body triangle. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Byrd lands an elbow to the side of the head. Byrd controls the position. Byrd gets his hands free as English looks to control. Byrd lands punches and elbows.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Byrd is cranking English's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for English! He's tightened the choke and English is tapping out!
