PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Herman Avery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mendy Ripstein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Herman Avery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mendy Ripstein!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Darius Henderson and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Avery takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
A head kick misses from Avery.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Ripstein has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Ripstein takes a swing at Avery's ribcage but misses.

Avery gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Avery goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ripstein prevents it.
Avery really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Avery manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Ripstein wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Avery cracks Ripstein with a nice body shot.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Avery tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ripstein smiles and moves away.
A nice combination there by Ripstein.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Avery drives through and clinches with Ripstein against the cage.
Ripstein is pressed up against the cage. Avery has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Ripstein down to the mat. Ripstein avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Herman Avery. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ripstein moves into the clinch.
Avery tries to stall but Ripstein uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Avery is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Ripstein goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Ripstein can't find room to land a body shot as Avery controls the action.

Avery successfully pulls guard.
Ripstein wants to stand and escape but instead Avery has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Ripstein is looking to stand up but Avery isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Avery throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ripstein works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Avery wants to stand and escape but instead Ripstein has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Avery has his hands on Ripstein's head, controlling the position.
Ripstein stops Avery from standing up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ripstein has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Avery is proving hard to escape from.

Avery has his foot on Ripstein's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ripstein works his way back into a safe position though.

Avery is working an open guard so Ripstein takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Ripstein looks winded!
Ripstein misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Ripstein moves into the clinch.
Ripstein with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Avery stalling.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Ripstein is trying to break the clinch but Avery is controlling him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A frustrated look appears on Ripstein's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Avery jumps guard but Ripstein turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Avery is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Ripstein is looking to break free of the clinch but Avery has double underhooks.
Avery is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Ripstein gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Ripstein tries to break the clinch but Avery is controlling the position.
Ripstein is trying to force a seperation but Avery has the dominant position.
Avery stalling in the clinch.
Avery goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ripstein stops a takedown attempt from Avery.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ripstein is trying to push Avery away but Avery has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Ripstein working hard to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mendy Ripstein will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Ripstein moves into the clinch.
Avery tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Avery pulls guard successfully.

Avery looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Ripstein is defending well. Avery quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Ripstein has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Avery celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Herman Avery!
