Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fernando Batilla!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wilson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Batilla sprawls well initially but Wilson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Batilla wants to get back to his feet.
Batilla is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Wilson tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Batilla.
Wilson stops Batilla from getting back to his feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Wilson cracks the inside of Batilla's front leg.
Wilson defending well as Batilla loads up on a big left hand.
Wilson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Batilla circles away.
Wilson lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Batilla at a distance.
Batilla looks gassed!
Wilson slips a jab and a cross from Batilla.

Batilla stuffs the takedown attempt from Wilson. Wilson gets slowly back to his feet.
Wilson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Batilla counters with a left and a right that stings Wilson.
Wilson throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Wilson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Wilson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Wilson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wilson misses with a wild body shot.
Wilson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Batilla circles away.

and Batilla counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Batilla misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Fernando Batilla is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Wilson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Wilson throws a right and a left that Batilla avoids nicely.
Wilson wants to clinch.
A low kick from Batilla is predictable there

and Wilson counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wilson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Wilson has taken the fight to the clinch.
Wilson goes for a takedown attempt but Batilla pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Wilson tries to clinch up but Batilla circles away and keeps his distance.

Wilson moves into the clinch.
Batilla wants to get back to striking at distance but Wilson won't allow it.
Batilla lands a body shot in the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wilson jumps guard but Batilla stands there with Wilson around his waist. Wilson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Wilson pulls Batilla into guard.
Wilson has a closed guard, preventing Batilla from standing up.

Batilla gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Batilla swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Wilson tries for a takedown but Batilla circles away easily
and Batilla makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Wilson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Batilla throws a hook but Wilson avoids it easily.
Wilson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Batilla swivels and escapes.
Wilson takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Batilla fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Wilson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Batilla tries a low kick but Wilson avoids it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Batilla keeps Wilson at a distance using the push kick.
Decent striking displayed by Batilla there.
Wilson misses with a wild combination.
John Wilson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Batilla fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Wilson buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wilson has his takedown stuffed
and Batilla counters with a series of strikes. Wilson will be more careful next time no doubt.

Batilla tries to keep at a distance but Wilson has taken the fight into the clinch.

Wilson pulls guard successfully.
Wilson pulls Batilla in close to prevent any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Batilla won't allow Wilson to sweep him here.
Batilla wants to stand but Wilson is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that John Wilson will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Wilson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Batilla as he jumps to the side.

and Wilson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Batilla counters with a huge uppercut, hook combination that drops Wilson! The ref has seen enough - he's dived in to stop the fight! Brutal strikes by Batilla!
