PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight kickboxing rules bout between Duncan MacGregor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Chan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). MacGregor's entrance music is Scotland the Brave. A fine choice. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Duncan MacGregor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Paul Chan!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Nard Betker and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MacGregor takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
MacGregor avoids the head kick by Chan.

Chan lands a front kick to the face, that drops MacGregor to the canvas! Is he dazed or just shocked? He's back to his feet and the referee is going to allow him to continue the fight!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
MacGregor misses with a lunging right hand
and Chan counters with a nice body shot.

MacGregor moves into the clinch.
Our sources have told us that MacGregor has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.
Chan is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

MacGregor throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Chan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
MacGregor blocks a head kick by Chan.
Duncan MacGregor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A looping hook to the body misses from MacGregor. Chan does a little dance to reset his feet.
Chan pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Chan has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as MacGregor is landing a low percentage of strikes.
MacGregor connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
MacGregor scores with a jab to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chan checks the leg kick nicely there.
MacGregor will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
MacGregor swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Chan looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
MacGregor moves into range and connects with a jab.

MacGregor has Chan up against the ropes in a clinch.
MacGregor fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
MacGregor pushes off an throws an elbow but Chan leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the ropes.

Chan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Chan takes a jab right on the kisser.
Chan throws a leg kick
letting MacGregor counter with a right hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
MacGregor throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and as MacGregor resets, Chan pounces with a savage head kick that drops MacGregor to the mat! MacGregor looks wobbly but gets back to his feet on the count of 5. The referee continues the count to 8 then steps aside to let these two guys get back at it!


It looks like Duncan MacGregor has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
MacGregor blocks a head kick by Chan.
MacGregor takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
A cross from MacGregor lands.
MacGregor connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
MacGregor throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Chan.
MacGregor tries to clinch but Chan moves out of range.
Nice uppercut there from MacGregor.
Chan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
MacGregor swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
MacGregor scores with a sloppy right hand. Chan should have avoided that one.
MacGregor connects with a crisp jab.


Chan is rocked!
Chan is starting to get sloppy and is letting his hands down. MacGregor just took advantage and landed a stinging jab. Oh! Now a right hook, right on the button! Chan has gone limp and this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Duncan MacGregor!
Our winner, Duncan MacGregor, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
