PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sub Hero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eino Nappi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nappi has chosen O Fortuna as his entrance music. On his way into the ring it seems that Sub Hero has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Sub Hero seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sub Hero!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Eino Nappi!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nappi throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Nappi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hero but Hero pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Hero looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Nappi!
Nappi tries to lock up and control but Hero gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Nappi takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Nappi is in a horrible position here. Hero smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Nappi keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Hero landing strikes from the mount.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Hero thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Hero goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Nappi turns into him and now he's in Hero's guard.

Hero looking for a guillotine here but Nappi defends easily.

Hero is looking for a triangle but Nappi pushes his legs off easily.
Nappi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hero bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Nappi's guard.

Nappi is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Hero is looking for a kimura but Nappi is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hero to get the leverage.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Hero seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Hero slips a nice elbow through Nappi's hands, connecting with Nappi's forehead.
Hero is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Nappi reverses the position - he's now on top in Hero's guard.

Hero has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Hero walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Nappi checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Hero takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Hero winds up and cracks Nappi with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Nappi drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Nappi tries to free his leg and advance position but Hero is retaining full guard.

Hero had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Nappi is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Hero Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Nappi's back instead.
Hero has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Nappi.

Nappi looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
Nappi just trying to survive but Hero is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Nappi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hero's waist but Hero gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nappi off to one side.

A head kick misses from Hero.
Sub Hero is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Nappi drives through and clinches with Hero against the ropes.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Hero.
Hero leaning against his opponent.
Hero wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hero lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Nappi takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Hero manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Hero working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nappi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nappi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Nappi is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Hero can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Nappi is trying to stick to Hero's back but Hero is turning into Nappi. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Nappi's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Hero.

That was a close round but Sub Hero did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


The fight stays on the outside here - Nappi looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Hero looks to land a combination. Nappi sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.
