PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between John Jamison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matti Teitsi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Jamison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Matti Teitsi!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Chad Campbell and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Teitsi moves out of range of the strikes.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jamison looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jamison lands the left hand.

Jamison gets a clinch.
Jamison lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Teitsi backwards.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Teitsi tries a knee to the head but Jamison blocks it.

It looks like John Jamison has been cut.
Teitsi wants to break the clinch but can't.

Teitsi breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jamison lands with a cross.
Teitsi throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Jamison misses with a looping right.
Teitsi connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Jamison scores with a hook.
Teitsi gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Jamison.
Jamison is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Jamison throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Teitsi's waist but Teitsi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jamison off to one side.

Jamison loads up on a big right hand but Teitsi slips the punch.
Jamison uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Teitsi.
Jamison tries to score a power double leg takedown but Teitsi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jamison somewhat.

Jamison digs a good body shot into Teitsi's ribs.
Jamison scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Jamison jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Jamison feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Jamison throws a strike but Teitsi rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jamison is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Jamison seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Teitsi engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Teitsi with a flurry of punches that miss.

Jamison will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Matti Teitsi wasn't active enough on the ground.
Jamison tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Teitsi defends well and Jamison ends up having to push Teitsi into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Jamison. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Teitsi is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Jamison is defending well for now.

Teitsi swings wildly with an uppercut but Jamison uses good head movement to avoid it.
The referee calls for Jamison to work.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Teitsi obliges.

Teitsi throws a punch but it's blocked by Jamison.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Teitsi is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Jamison checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Teitsi is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Jamison.
Teitsi connects with a body shot that sends Jamison's belly button to the back.
Jamison fails with a takedown attempt.
Jamison takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Jamison shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jamison showed some decent athleticism there.

Jamison wants to advance to full mount but Teitsi doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Teitsi utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Jamison wants to pass the guard but Teitsi is keeping the position.

Jamison throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Teitsi works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jamison accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jamison makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Teitsi throws out a loose jab but Jamison uses good head movement to avoid it.
Jamison fails with the takedown.
Jamison throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Jamison shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Teitsi sprawls well. Teitsi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jamison gets slowly back to his feet.

Teitsi throws a lazy right hand but Jamison sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Jamison ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Teitsi moves away.
Jamison lands the left hand.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Teitsi.
Teitsi feints and then cracks Jamison's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Jamison down.
Jamison jabs Teitsi to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Jamison dives in for a single leg takedown but Teitsi sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Jamison will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Jamison shoots in and bounces Teitsi off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Teitsi holds on and takes a little breather.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Teitsi is on top in guard.
Jamison is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Teitsi wants to control from the top but Jamison keeps moving.
Jamison has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Teitsi is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Jamison has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Teitsi missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Teitsi swings for the body but Jamison moves out of range.
Jamison fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Jamison shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Teitsi napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Jamison throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Teitsi is not content to let Jamison control the position.
Teitsi is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

A bit of a lull in the action here.
Teitsi on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Teitsi is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Jamison off and has taken his back!
Teitsi tries to get the hooks in deep but Jamison pushed the leg off.
Jamison looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Teitsi has the hooks in. Jamison is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Teitsi is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Jamison tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Teitsi lands a big shot there that rocks Jamison but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
John Jamison overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jamison holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Teitsi tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Jamison can't escape the position.
Teitsi is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Jamison can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Teitsi breaks from Jamison's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Jamison is in all sorts of trouble here.
Teitsi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jamison is looking to escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
Matti Teitsi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Teitsi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Matti Teitsi decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
