Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hanky Panky! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rocco Escobar! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Edson Gomes and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jab by Escobar. Escobar tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Panky paws at him with a jab and circles away. Escobar connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Panky is rocked! Panky has a takedown stuffed. Escobar jabs at Panky's body. Escobar throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Escobar with a poor takedown and Panky counters with a nice double leg into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This has been an exciting period of action! Panky lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Escobar is looking for a sweep. Panky is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Panky missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Escobar avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Panky. Escobar keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Escobar wants to control but Panky is keeping busy.
Escobar gets full guard. Escobar pulls Panky in close to his closed guard and prevents Panky from doing any damage or advancing position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Panky postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Escobar pulls Panky in close to his closed guard and prevents Panky from doing any damage or advancing position. Panky throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Escobar works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Escobar had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Panky is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Escobar Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Panky's back instead. Panky wants to escape the position.
Panky is breathing heavily. Panky is working hard here to advance position. A lull in the action here.
Panky rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Escobar sitting and controlling from the half guard. Escobar passes to side control. Escobar wants to control but Panky is keeping him busy. Panky is looking for a sweep. Escobar is looking to take a break and control but Panky is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. A lull in the action here as Escobar stalls from top position. Panky tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Escobar wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Panky misses with an elbow from the bottom. Escobar wants to lay and pray for a moment but Panky keeps working. Escobar wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Panky, who protects the arm well. Escobar wants to control but Panky is keeping him busy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Escobar passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Panky! Escobar landing strikes from the mount and Panky is in trouble! Panky blocking the ground and pound. BOOM! Escobar connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Panky is trying desperately to improve position. Escobar is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Escobar extends the arm and Panky is forced to tap!
