Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Roland Nolan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Reagen Penn! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penn with a poor takedown and Nolan counters with a nice double leg into side control. Penn won't be happy with that. Nolan working away. Nolan throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Nolan landing a few strikes. Penn is letting Nolan control him for a moment. Nolan creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Nolan is chipping away with strikes.
Nolan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Penn knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Penn is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Penn looking for submissions off his back. Nolan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Penn has managed to free his arm - good work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn is staying active underneath Nolan, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Nice strikes from Nolan there. Nolan throwing shots but Penn is blocking nicely. Nolan is looking to take a break and control but Penn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Nice strikes from Nolan there. Nolan trying to control from half guard but Penn is working away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Penn manages to get to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Penn throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Nolan working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Penn's head. Nolan tries to free his leg and advance position but Penn is retaining full guard. Penn is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Nolan rolls with it to try and escape but Penn cranks on the arm and Nolan is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
