PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jason Kingsley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marley Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jason Kingsley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marley Bob!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bob shoots in and bounces Kingsley off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Bob stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kingsley swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kingsley uses the cage to get back to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Bob.
Bob shoots in looking for a takedown. Kingsley tries to sprawl out of it but Bob keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kingsley manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kingsley has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Hilo Training Center in the buildup to the fight.
Kingsley throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bob's waist but Bob gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kingsley off to one side.
Bob looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Bob shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jason Kingsley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marley Bob.

Bob closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bob lands in his opponent's guard.

Kingsley controls Bob momentarily but Bob frees himself.

Kingsley has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Bob off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Bob closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bob lands in his opponent's guard.

Bob gets to his feet - Kingsley follows without any prompting.
Kingsley tries to close the distance and clinch but Bob swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Bob closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bob lands in his opponent's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Bob wants to control from the top but Kingsley keeps moving.

Bob slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Bob goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Kingsley rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Bob's guard! Nice work there by Kingsley!
Bob wants to get back to his feet but Kingsley is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Bob looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Kingsley drops back looking for a leg! Bob is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bob manages to kick Kingsley off! Kingsley jumps back into Bob's guard.
Kingsley stops Bob from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kingsley wants to control from the top but Bob keeps moving.
Bob bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kingsley's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bob is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bob looks for a takedown but Kingsley sprawls well.
Bob fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kingsley avoids it really well and circles away.
Bob shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kingsley but Kingsley pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Bob looks like he's trying to stand up.
Kingsley thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Kingsley is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bob doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kingsley.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Bob holds on and takes a little breather.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bob shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Kingsley manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Bob is trying to trip Kingsley. He has hold of a leg but Kingsley is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Bob persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bob accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kingsley is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Kingsley avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bob looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Kingsley wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marley Bob showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Bob tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kingsley defends well and Bob ends up having to push Kingsley into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Kingsley gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Bob is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Kingsley gets caught flat footed, as Bob shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Bob throws a big right hand that misses.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Bob has gone for a leg lock! Kingsley slips out almost immediately though and dives into Bob's guard.

Bob takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bob controls Kingsley momentarily but Kingsley frees himself.

Kingsley thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Bob has his feet on Kingsley's thighs here. He's pushed Kingsley off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Kingsley screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Marley Bob!
