The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meyer tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Alvarez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Meyer shoots in for a takedown but Alvarez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Dante Alvarez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Meyer takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Meyer slips a jab and a cross from Alvarez.
Alvarez throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Meyer.
Alvarez shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Meyer eats them both and turns towards Alvarez to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Alvarez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Meyer wants to stall.

Meyer is looking to control Alvarez's arms but Alvarez gets an underhook and turns him. Now Meyer has his back to the cage.

Meyer gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Alvarez regains guard.

Meyer drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Meyer jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Meyer is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Alvarez has escaped the position, nice work there.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Meyer lands a nice forearm strike.

Meyer swings around for an armbar but Alvarez sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Meyer's guard.

Alvarez connects with a couple of short punches.
Alvarez wanted to stand there but Meyer had control of the position.

Alvarez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Meyer has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alvarez has managed to get both his arms back between Meyer's legs - danger averted.
Alvarez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Meyer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Meyer has his foot on Alvarez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Alvarez works his way back into a safe position though.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alvarez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That was a close round but I would say that Dave Meyer will probably get the nod.

Meyer looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Alvarez is fending him off so far but Meyer persists. Nope, Alvarez circles away and we're back to standing.
Alvarez misses with a two punch combination.
Alvarez lands a nice shot that snaps Meyer's head back.
Meyer slips a jab and a cross from Alvarez.
Meyer takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Meyer tries to close the distance and clinch but Alvarez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Alvarez throws a head kick that misses.
Alvarez tries to bum rush Meyer with a series of wild strikes but Meyer uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Meyer closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Alvarez to the mat! Alvarez manages to get full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Alvarez wants to stand but Meyer is controlling the position.
Alvarez is breathing heavily.
Meyer throws a strike but Alvarez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Meyer pulls Alvarez in close to his closed guard and prevents Alvarez from doing any damage or advancing position.

Alvarez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Dave Meyer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Meyer has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Alvarez defend it? Meyer steps over the head and cranks it - Alvarez is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Meyer!
