Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Frank Shamrock! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Koji Sobando! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Michael Johnstone and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sobando changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Shamrock tries to avoid it but Sobando manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Shamrock to the ground. Shamrock escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Shamrock tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sobando defends well and Shamrock ends up having to push Sobando into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Sobando turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Sobando manages to end up in side control. Shamrock is looking for a sweep. Shamrock is working hard here to advance position. You can see the frustration on Shamrock's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Sobando trying to control the position but Shamrock is working away. Shamrock regains half guard. Shamrock is trying to control but can't.
Shamrock regains full guard. Nicely done. Shamrock has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sobando can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Sobando trying to control the position from guard on top but Shamrock is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've been hearing good reports from Shamrock's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shamrock is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Sobando throwing strikes from guard but Shamrock blocks nicely. Shamrock escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sobando gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Sobando trying to control but Shamrock is working from the bottom. Shamrock is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Sobando's corner is telling him to maintain position. Sobando wants to control from the top but Shamrock keeps moving.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Koji Sobando was stalling too much, according to the referee. Sobando closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Shamrock is looking for a sweep. Shamrock wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Shamrock tries to get back to half guard but can't. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Shamrock gets back to half guard. Shamrock looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Shamrock tries to get to full guard but Sobando has control of the leg. Shamrock keeps control of the position for the meantime.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sobando sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Shamrock defending well though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sobando not landing any meaningful shots this time. Sobando wants to free his trapped foot but Shamrock is holding on for dear life with his legs. Shamrock keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Shamrock blocking the ground and pound attempt from Sobando. Shamrock has a hand on Sobando's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Sobando takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Sobando looking to control but Shamrock is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shamrock wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Sobando cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
We've been informed that Sobando has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Shamrock is squirming around, avoiding Sobando's attempts to control the action. Shamrock is desperately trying to improve his position but Sobando has a good base and remains in mount. Sobando throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Shamrock because Sobando loaded up on that one. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Sobando trying to control but Shamrock is having none of it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shamrock is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sobando controlling from mount. Shamrock is looking to improve his position but Sobando isn't that keen on the idea. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Shamrock. Shamrock shoots in looking for a takedown but Sobando manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Shamrock's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Shamrock closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Shamrock in side control, throwing shots but Sobando defends. Shamrock tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Shamrock cracks Sobando with a big elbow. Shamrock lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Sobando down.

Sobando gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Shamrock is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sobando sees it coming and defends easily. Sobando is looking to control Shamrock's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sobando avoid being mounted? Sobando is trying to stand up here but Shamrock is controlling him well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sobando manages to get to full guard.

Shamrock missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Shamrock cracks Sobando with a solid left hand. Shamrock drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Shamrock seems to have locked his on tight now - Sobando screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Shamrock, as he picks up the win!
