Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Elvis Wilcox! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andres Mapanglait! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wilcox fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Mapanglait to the ground. Wilcox is now in Mapanglait's guard. Wilcox seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Mapanglait thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Mapanglait can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Wilcox controls the pace. Mapanglait controlling the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Elvis Wilcox wasn't doing enough on the ground. Wilcox swats away the attempt to clinch by Mapanglait. Wilcox drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Wilcox might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mapanglait being controlled here, momentarily. Mapanglait throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Mapanglait is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Mapanglait seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Let's hope that Mapanglait has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Andres Mapanglait hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Wilcox gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Mapanglait content to stall in guard here. Mapanglait is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wilcox keeping moving, preventing Mapanglait from controlling successfully. Mapanglait pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mapanglait seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

A close round but Andres Mapanglait will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Mapanglait throws a right and a left that both miss. Wilcox gets caught napping as Mapanglait dives in and scores a takedown. Wilcox manages to retain guard. Andres Mapanglait has got the better of the ground game so far. Mapanglait wants to control from the top but Wilcox keeps moving. Wilcox pushes Mapanglait off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Wilcox tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. A momentary lapse in concentration from Wilcox enables Mapanglait to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Wilcox manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Wilcox wriggles free and stands up. Mapanglait tries to clinch there but Wilcox circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round. Mapanglait looks to land a body kick but Wilcox moved away. Mapanglait fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Wilcox, pushing him back against the cage. Mapanglait drags the fight down to the ground.
Mapanglait is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Wilcox is controlling him. Wilcox is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Elvis Wilcox just wasn't active enough. Mapanglait pivots, looking for a leg kick but Wilcox is out of range and Mapanglait settles back down. Mapanglait shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Wilcox is trying to defend but Mapanglait finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Mapanglait has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Wilcox wants to hold on but Mapanglait pushes him away. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mapanglait landing shots from mount. Wilcox really wants to buck Mapanglait off and get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mapanglait lands a couple of good shots and Wilcox has given up his back, trying to escape the position! Wilcox can't escape the position.
Mapanglait looking for the choke but no joy. Wilcox tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Mapanglait wants to control the pace but Wilcox is squirming around nicely. Wilcox gets back to half guard. Wilcox flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Mapanglait is trying to control the action in half guard but Wilcox is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. The fighters are battling for position here. Wilcox manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Wilcox controls Mapanglait momentarily but Mapanglait frees himself. Mapanglait won't allow Wilcox to sweep him here. This has been an exciting period of action! Wilcox pushes Mapanglait off and scrambles back to his feet.
Wilcox feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mapanglait not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Wilcox scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. A bit of a lull in the action here. Wilcox taking a breather here. Mapanglait trying his best to control but Wilcox has mounted him.

Mapanglait takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Wilcox keeps control of the position as Mapanglait tries to break free.

That's two minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Mapanglait's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Mapanglait tries to escape but Wilcox has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Mapanglait trying to control the action but Wilcox just sinks the hooks in. I would not like to be Mapanglait right now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wilcox is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Mapanglait up.
Mapanglait trying to control the position but Wilcox manages to sink in the hooks. Wilcox lands a shot to the body. What can Mapanglait do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Elvis Wilcox has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Andres Mapanglait is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Wilcox is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Mapanglait is defending well though. Wilcox let's go of the attempt for now.
