Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Meira! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rob Ramirez! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Edson Gomes and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ramirez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Meira defends it nicely. Meira has taken the fight to the clinch.
Meira has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Ramirez is trying to keep an underhook but Meira manages to get the takedown into half guard. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Meira seems to be working for a kimura but Ramirez defends the submission attempt. The fighters are battling for position here. Ramirez manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Meira stays in close to Ramirez's body and controls the position. Ramirez wants to sweep but no luck. Meira controls from within his opponent's guard. Ramirez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Meira defends it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ramirez wants to stand but Meira is controlling the position. Meira is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Ramirez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Meira.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Carlos Meira wasn't doing enough on the ground. Meira changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ramirez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Meira is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ramirez has escaped the position, nice work there. Ramirez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Meira wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Meira looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Ramirez being controlled for a moment. You can see the frustration on Ramirez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Meira in side control, just content to control the action for now. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Ramirez dodges the ground and pound from Meira.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Meira tries to advance to mount but can't. Ramirez wants to control but Meira postures up. Ramirez might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Meira haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Meira in side control, just content to control the action for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Meira clinches up against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Meira breaks from the clinch.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Meira. You can see the frustration on Ramirez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Ramirez is letting Meira control him for a moment. Meira thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Meira working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Meira controlling from side mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Carlos Meira dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Ramirez enables Meira to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ramirez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Meira is pushing down on Ramirez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ramirez is fighting to maintain full guard but Meira has managed to sneak the leg through. Meira with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Ramirez tries to kick Meira off but Meira keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Carlos Meira overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Meira slows the pace down in half guard. Ramirez wants to control but Meira is keeping busy.

That's one minute gone in the round. Meira tries to pass to full mount but Ramirez defends it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Meira is controlling the pace.
Ramirez is in trouble now - Meira has advanced to mount! Meira content just to control the position here. Meira is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Ramirez to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ramirez shrugs it off.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Meira tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Meira manages to capitalize on a mistake by Ramirez to take his back! Meira has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Ramirez's body.
Meira is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Ramirez knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Ramirez for a finish. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Meira keeps control of the position easily here as Ramirez tries to buck him off.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Meira's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Meira working for the choke. You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Ramirez tries to roll but Meira sticks to his back.
Meira is persistently looking for the submission but Ramirez is defending it well.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here. So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Meira patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Ramirez looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Carlos Meira dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Meira moves into the clinch. Ramirez lands a takedown into guard.
Ramirez content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Meira has locked up a guillotine! Meira's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Ramirez is holding on here and Meira must be using up a lot of energy. Ramirez has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Meira gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
