PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Trent Holmes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yasuo Yoshifumi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Robert Twigg.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holmes looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Yoshifumi misses with a double jab.
Holmes tries to clinch but Yoshifumi is having none of it.
Yoshifumi waves his right hand out infront of him, looking to distract Holmes. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Holmes to the canvas! Can he finish him!?

Holmes is rocked!

It looks like Trent Holmes has been cut.
Yoshifumi is stalling in the full guard.
Oh Holmes is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Holmes throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Holmes wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Yoshifumi manages to pass to side control.
Holmes seems to have got his legs back now.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Holmes wants to improve his position but Yoshifumi is controlling well.
Yoshifumi wants to stand up but Holmes is controlling the position.
Holmes scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Yoshifumi manages to mount him!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Holmes is wriggling around trying to escape.
Holmes is working hard here to advance position.

Yoshifumi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Holmes is looking to improve his position but Yoshifumi isn't that keen on the idea.
Holmes wants to hold on but Yoshifumi pushes him away.

Yoshifumi tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Holmes is trying to reverse the position but instead Yoshifumi has taken his back - oops!
Yoshifumi is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Holmes wants to get back to his feet.
You can see the frustration on Holmes's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Yoshifumi is not going to allow Holmes to sit and survive in this position.

Yoshifumi keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Yoshifumi rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Holmes moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Holmes fails in his attempt to clinch.
A combination from Yoshifumi does no damage.
Yoshifumi throws a series of punches but Holmes avoids them all with ease.
Yoshifumi looks to land a combination but Holmes avoids it well.
Holmes ducks right into an uppercut from Yoshifumi.
Yoshifumi will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Yoshifumi works over Holmes's head and body with a nice combination.
Holmes tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Yoshifumi misses with a looping left.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Holmes closes the distance and clinches.
Yoshifumi can't break the clinch.
Holmes tries to pull guard but Yoshifumi won't allow it.

Holmes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Holmes tries to clinch up but Yoshifumi circles away and keeps his distance.
Yasuo Yoshifumi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yoshifumi swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Holmes lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Yoshifumi fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Holmes is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Holmes has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Yoshifumi clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Holmes is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Yoshifumi knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Yoshifumi for a finish.

Holmes lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
Even with his hooks in, Holmes manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Holmes is not going to allow Yoshifumi to sit and survive in this position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Holmes misses with an elbow to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yoshifumi prevents Holmes from getting a body triangle.
Holmes is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Yoshifumi is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Holmes gets his hands free as Yoshifumi looks to control.

A close second round but Yasuo Yoshifumi will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Holmes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Holmes has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Yoshifumi is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Yoshifumi wants to break free but Holmes has control.
Holmes throws an elbow but it misses.
Yoshifumi wants to get back to striking at distance but Holmes won't allow it.
Yoshifumi gets underhooks to prevent Holmes's takedown attempt.
Yoshifumi wants to break the clinch but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Holmes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Yoshifumi blocks a head kick by Holmes.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Yoshifumi keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Yoshifumi gets caught flat footed, as Holmes shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Holmes looking to sit in guard and control but Yoshifumi gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Holmes wants to hit a switch here but Yoshifumi passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Holmes there!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Holmes tries to hold on but Yoshifumi pushes him away.
Holmes is trying to escape the mount.
Holmes bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Holmes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Holmes stands and throws Yoshifumi's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Holmes wants to control but Yoshifumi is keeping him busy.

Holmes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Holmes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Trent Holmes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Holmes goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
