Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob Dutko! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyson Rios! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dutko fakes the leg kick and cracks Rios in the body. Rios checks a low kick from Dutko. Dutko dodges the punch combination from Rios.
Dutko motions for Rios to come forward. Dutko throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Rios takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Rios looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Dutko lands with a slapping head kick. Dutko looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Rios sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Rios gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dutko accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Dutko passes easily into side control. Nice work. Rios is looking for a sweep. Dutko working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Rios manages to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rios keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dutko tries to pass to full mount but Rios defends it. Dutko thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Dutko tries to pass to full mount but Rios defends it. Dutko moves nicely into side control. Rios on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Dutko is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Rios knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dutko in side control lands a decent elbow. Dutko is chipping away with strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Dutko wants to control but Rios is keeping him busy. Rios takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Dutko lands a decent elbow from side control. Dutko tries to move to full mount but Rios actually manages to regain half guard. Dutko slips a nice elbow through Rios's hands, connecting with Rios's forehead.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rios is looking for a sweep. Dutko is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Dutko not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Dutko is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Dutko sitting and controlling from the half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dutko lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Dutko scoring with strikes to the body and head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dutko seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rios does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Dutko throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Dutko scores with a big shot! Rios's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Rios! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
