Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Karim Bashorov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Derick Peterson! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Peterson walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Peterson has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Bashorov moves away from the strike by Peterson. Bashorov uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Peterson. Peterson tries to clinch there but Bashorov circles away.
Bashorov avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bashorov blocks a leg kick. Peterson avoids the body shot from Bashorov.
Bashorov closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Peterson quickly recovers to half guard. Bashorov missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Bashorov wants to take a breather but Peterson is having none of it. Bashorov is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Peterson has managed to free his arm - good work. Bashorov passes to side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bashorov goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Peterson rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Bashorov's guard! Nice work there by Peterson! Bashorov keeping moving, preventing Peterson from controlling successfully. Bashorov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Peterson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bashorov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Peterson is one step ahead there. Bashorov is working hard here to advance position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Bashorov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Peterson defends well. Peterson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Bashorov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Peterson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Peterson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Bashorov pushes a forearm under Peterson's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Peterson is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
