Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Keijiro Maeda! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Marco Cross! The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Santiago Holmes and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maeda moves in looking to clinch but Cross pushes him off. Maeda with a lazy takedown attempt and Cross counters with a nice double leg into guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Maeda throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Cross scoring with punches to the head and body. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cross postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Cross lands a couple of decent looking shots. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Cross lands a couple of digs. Cross distracts Maeda with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Cross looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cross chips away with some ground and pound. Cross is working Maeda over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Cross working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Cross keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Maeda's head. Cross postures up and lands a big shot to Maeda's brow. Cross postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Cross has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Cross working some strikes from top position.
Maeda is rocked! Cross postures up and lands a big shot to Maeda's brow. Oh Maeda is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Cross loads up on a big left hand. Maeda felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Cross looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Maeda can't hide his disappointment, as Cross celebrates the victory.
