PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jaakko Parantainen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JO WO (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Parantainen might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Hellacopters - Soulseller. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jaakko Parantainen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, JO WO!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
WO misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Parantainen tries to clinch but WO moves out of range.
Parantainen thuds his right hand into WO's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
WO throws a body kick that misses.
Parantainen ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Parantainen darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
WO wants to get back to his feet.
WO tries to get to full guard but Parantainen has control of the leg.
Parantainen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

WO trying to control but Parantainen postures up.
Parantainen content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Parantainen lands a nice short elbow.
WO avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Parantainen.
WO has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Parantainen is working away from the top position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
WO tries to get to full guard but Parantainen has control of the leg.
Parantainen lands with a punch from half guard.
WO looks gassed!

Parantainen escapes and gets back to his feet.
Parantainen misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
JO WO seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Parantainen lands with a straight right. WO didn't see that one coming.
Parantainen throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Parantainen takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

WO lands a nice hook to Parantainen's body. Parantainen takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Parantainen!


WO is rocked!

Parantainen pushes WO up against the cage in a clinch.
Parantainen just leaning against WO, taking a breather.
Parantainen lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of WO backwards.
WO wants to break free but Parantainen has control.

WO escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Parantainen slips under a jab from WO.

Parantainen has WO up against the cage in a clinch.
Parantainen lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Parantainen gets control of WO's arms and successfully pulls guard. Parantainen will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Parantainen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. WO manages to get himself to full guard.
Parantainen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

WO is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Parantainen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Parantainen tries to free his leg and advance position but WO is retaining full guard.
Parantainen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
WO is looking to stand up but Parantainen isn't so interested in that idea.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Parantainen pushes down on WO's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Parantainen swings for the body but WO moves out of range.
WO misses with a double jab

and Parantainen counters by clinching up.
WO is looking to break free of the clinch but Parantainen has double underhooks.

Parantainen has clasped his hands together around WO's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Parantainen slows the pace down.

Parantainen decides to stand back up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
WO throws a looping overhand right but Parantainen ducks down to avoid it.

Parantainen clinches up with WO and pushes him back against the cage.
Parantainen lands a shot to the body.

Parantainen has WO pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Parantainen pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending WO tumbling to the mat - Parantainen dives into WO's guard.

Parantainen stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Parantainen buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Jaakko Parantainen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Parantainen gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Parantainen winds up and cracks WO with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Parantainen scores with a jab to the body.
Parantainen lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
WO takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
WO misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Parantainen.
Nice body kick there by Parantainen.

Parantainen closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
WO is staying active underneath Parantainen, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Jaakko Parantainen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Parantainen escapes and gets back to his feet.
WO wants to clinch but Parantainen slips to the side

and Parantainen counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for WO!
Parantainen lands a big shot there that rocks WO but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Parantainen is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that WO can do to turn this around?
WO wants to control but Parantainen is having none of it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Parantainen will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

WO on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
WO is still on wobbly legs! Can Parantainen finish him?
WO misses with a jab, cross combination.
WO seems to have recovered his senses.
Parantainen lunges at WO with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by WO's hand.
Parantainen wants to clinch up but WO keeps it at a distance.

WO tries to improve position but can't.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Parantainen moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

WO is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

WO swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

Parantainen with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
