Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Clifton Chen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Polly Italiano I V! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Chen drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sloppy strikes there by Chen. The ground and pound from Chen seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Chen decides to take the fight back to the feet. Italiano I V looks winded! Italiano I V gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Chen to score an easy takedown into full guard. Chen wants to stand but Italiano I V has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Chen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Italiano I V pinned against the cage. Italiano I V gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Chen moves in looking to clinch but Italiano I V pushes him off. Chen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Italiano I V swivels and escapes. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chen is controlling Italiano I V's position as best he can from this difficult position. Italiano I V tries to stand and escape but Chen is controlling the position. Chen moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Italiano I V has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Chen is proving hard to escape from. Chen lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Italiano I V! Chen controlling from the full mount.

Chen misses with a head shot. Chen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Chen controlling from the full mount. Chen breaks from Italiano I V's wrist control and lands an elbow. Chen keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Italiano I V's efforts to push away. Chen is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Italiano I V is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Italiano I V tries to break the clinch but Chen is controlling the position. Chen jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Italiano I V walks away with a smile on his face. Chen gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clifton Chen. That's going to take a lot out of him. Chen moves in looking to clinch but Italiano I V pushes him off.
