PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bill Ballantine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Macavoy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Bill Ballantine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Joseph Macavoy!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Daniel Franklin and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ballantine tries to clinch there but Macavoy circles away.
Ballantine throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Macavoy.
Ballantine tries a head kick but it misses.
Macavoy shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ballantine as he jumps to the side.
Ballantine looks to land a combination but Macavoy avoids it well.
A punch combination from Ballantine misses.
Macavoy should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Ballantine feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ballantine is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Ballantine is working Macavoy over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Macavoy pulls Ballantine in close to prevent any damage.

Macavoy is looking for a triangle but Ballantine pushes his legs off easily.

Ballantine wants to control from the top but Macavoy keeps moving.
Ballantine is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

We're going to have a standup here because Bill Ballantine wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Ballantine wants to clinch up but Macavoy keeps it at a distance.

Ballantine moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Joseph Macavoy has been cut.

Macavoy tries to keep at a distance but Ballantine has taken the fight into the clinch.

Macavoy is trying to drag Ballantine to the mat but Ballantine just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Macavoy has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ballantine is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Bill Ballantine has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joseph Macavoy.

Ballantine is keen to just control but Macavoy is a slippery customer.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Bill Ballantine just wasn't active enough.
Ballantine pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Ballantine has Macavoy up against the cage in a clinch.

Ballantine breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ballantine tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Macavoy paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Ballantine breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Macavoy shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ballantine manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Macavoy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ballantine swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ballantine seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Ballantine is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Macavoy's half guard.
Still in half guard, Ballantine seems content to control.

Ballantine trying to work for an americana but Macavoy has managed to regain full guard.

Ballantine avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Ballantine tries to bum rush Macavoy with a series of wild strikes but Macavoy uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Macavoy dives in for a single leg takedown but Ballantine sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Macavoy shoots in looking for a takedown. Ballantine tries to sprawl out of it but Macavoy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ballantine manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ballantine is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Macavoy is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Macavoy has escaped and now he's on top!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Ballantine changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Macavoy looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Ballantine looking to control but instead Macavoy has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Macavoy has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ballantine is working away from the top position though.
Ballantine wants to take a breather but Macavoy is having none of it.
Ballantine seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Macavoy wants to improve his position but Ballantine is controlling well.
Ballantine seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Ballantine looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Ballantine sizes up Macavoy with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Ballantine tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Macavoy paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Macavoy postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ballantine is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Macavoy, into his guard.
Bill Ballantine overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Macavoy has momentary wrist control but Ballantine slips an elbow through the middle.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bill Ballantine showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Ballantine has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
