PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Juho Pennanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Keane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Juho Pennanen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Roy Keane!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Keane wants to clinch.
Keane shoots in but no luck this time.
Keane slips a jab from Pennanen.
Pennanen misses the jab.
Pennanen throws a right hand that Keane ducks under and follows up with a left that Keane also avoids with ease.
Pennanen lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
A cross from Pennanen lands.
Pennanen throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Pennanen misses with a wild body shot.
Nice takedown defense from Pennanen. No joy for Keane on that attempt.
Keane avoids a punch combination nicely.
Keane shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pennanen as he jumps to the side.
Juho Pennanen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roy Keane.
Keane looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pennanen is fending him off so far but Keane persists. Nope, Pennanen circles away and we're back to standing.
Pennanen looks to land a left hand but Keane moved out of range nicely.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pennanen throws a sloppy head kick
and Keane counters with a stiff right hand.

Keane looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Pennanen wants to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Keane is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Keane looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Keane is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pennanen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Keane is looking for a kimura but Pennanen is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Keane to get the leverage.

Keane wants to work for an arm triangle but Pennanen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Pennanen holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Pennanen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Keane is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Keane seems to be working for a kimura but Pennanen defends the submission attempt.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Pennanen moves into full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Keane drops back, looking for a kneebar! Pennanen looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Pennanen looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Pennanen!
Keane gets back to half guard.

Keane looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Keane is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pennanen pulls his head out easily.
Pennanen not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Pennanen scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Keane told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Keane makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Keane.
Pennanen throwing strikes but missing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pennanen trying to control the position from guard on top but Keane is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Keane is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Pennanen missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Keane utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Pennanen working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Keane avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Keane is looking for a triangle but Pennanen pushes his legs off easily.
Pennanen throws a big elbow that misses.
Pennanen trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pennanen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pennanen throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Keane works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Keane escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pennanen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Keane has momentary wrist control but Pennanen slips an elbow through the middle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juho Pennanen dominated that round.
That's time! Pennanen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Keane moves out of range of the strikes.
Pennanen throws a body punch but Keane moves out of range.
Keane tries for a takedown but Pennanen sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Keane gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Keane drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Pennanen gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Pennanen scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Pennanen fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Pennanen prevents a takedown attempt there.
Juho Pennanen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roy Keane.
Pennanen lands a hook that snaps the head of Keane backwards.
Keane is looking to take this one to the mat.
Pennanen tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Pennanen breaks from the clinch.
Pennanen swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Keane with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Pennanen to score with a decent uppercut.


Keane is rocked!
Keane leaves his chin hanging out and Pennanen seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Keane crumbles to the floor in a heap! The referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Juho Pennanen!
A relieved looking Juho Pennanen thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
