PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shaun Simmons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hideya Kaayi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Patrick Alders and Aafke Stam.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kaayi shoots in but no luck this time.
Simmons misses with a few strikes there.
Simmons is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Kaayi wants to clinch up but Simmons keeps it at a distance.
Simmons throws an overhand right that lands on Kaayi's shoulder, as Kaayi tries to avoid the shot.
Good leg kick by Kaayi there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Kaayi has a takedown stuffed.
Kaayi has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Sloppy strikes from Simmons. Those never looked like landing.
Simmons is breathing heavily.
Simmons misses with a jab, cross combination.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Kaayi!

Kaayi closes the distance and clinches.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Simmons is looking to break free of the clinch but Kaayi has double underhooks.
Kaayi is looking to take this one to the mat.
Shaun Simmons has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hideya Kaayi.
Kaayi changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Simmons fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Kaayi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Simmons swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Simmons takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Kaayi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Simmons's waist but Simmons gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kaayi off to one side.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Kaayi throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Simmons's head.

A slapping leg kick lands for Kaayi.
Kaayi scores with a nice head shot.
Simmons swats away the attempt to clinch by Kaayi.
Kaayi connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Simmons's hands.
Simmons takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Kaayi fails to land the takedown.
Kaayi lands with a slapping head kick.

Simmons is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kaayi pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kaayi feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Simmons's calf.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kaayi looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Simmons looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Kaayi throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
A slapping body kick lands there for Kaayi.

Kaayi drops Simmons with a big left hand and mounts him. Simmons is in big trouble!
Oh Simmons is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Simmons is in a horrible position here. Kaayi smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kaayi lands a heavy shot. That's hurt Simmons! Kaayi sees the opportunity and turns up the heat - strike after strike land to the defenseless Simmons and the ref dives in to save him! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Hideya Kaayi!
