PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chris Flint (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lou Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lou Johnson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chris Flint!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Lou Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Skip Squint and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson throws a series of punches but Flint avoids them all with ease.
Johnson throws a right and a left that both miss.
Johnson tries to clinch but Flint is having none of it.

Johnson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Flint misses with a looping right.
Johnson misses with a kick to the body.
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt - Flint sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Flint breaks from the clinch.
Johnson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Flint circles away quickly and effectively.
Flint takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Johnson misses with a takedown attempt - Flint sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Chris Flint has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lou Johnson.
Flint moves out of range as Johnson throws a body kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Johnson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Lou Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Flint misses with a hook.

Johnson rushes Flint and presses him up against the cage.
Flint definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Flint escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Flint.
Horrible takedown by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by Flint which made him look bad.
Johnson looks winded!
Johnson moves out of range of the strikes.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Flint.
Flint misses with the ground and pound.

Johnson is trying to get back to half guard.

Flint is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Johnson has escaped the position, nice work there.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Flint takes a little break here. Johnson wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Flint working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Flint wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Johnson, who protects the arm well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Flint trying to control the action but Johnson is working from the bottom.
Flint throws a strike aimed at the side of Johnson's head but Johnson avoids it well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
An elbow from Flint crashes against the mat.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sloppy strikes there by Flint.
Flint landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Johnson takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Johnson tries to escape but Flint is in control.

Flint goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Johnson has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Flint but great work by Johnson.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Johnson missing with a left hand there. Flint was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Johnson misses with the combination.
Johnson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Flint circles away quickly and effectively.
A cross from Johnson lands.
Johnson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Flint goes for a double leg but Johnson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Johnson continues to drive forward.
Johnson misses with a hook from the clinch.
Flint has had enough of the clinch but Johnson keeps him there for the moment.
Flint is trying to stall.
Johnson throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Flints head.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Johnson is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Flint is keeping busy.

Flint managing to block the knees to the body from Johnson.
Johnson tries to break the clinch but Flint is controlling the position.
Flint tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Johnson's elbow.
Flint working hard to break the clinch.
Flint keeps control of Johnson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Johnson pushes off an throws an elbow but Flint leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Johnson pulls Flint into guard.
Flint trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Flint drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Johnson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Flint has Johnson in his guard.

Johnson postures up in Flint's guard and throws a big left but Flint blocks it.
Flint looking to hit a scissor sweep but Johnson is one step ahead there.
Flint working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Johnson.
Flint utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Flint swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Flint trying to keep a closed guard but Johnson is proving a slippery customer.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnson with a flurry of punches that miss.
Flint punching to the body, from the bottom.
Johnson postures up.

Johnson stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Flint has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Johnson manages to get his head free but now Flint has transitioned to an armbar! Johnson grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Flint! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Chris Flint!
