Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Stu Grounder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Vidal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vidal has chosen Dead End Countdown as his entrance music. Stu Grounder could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to John Vidal's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stu Grounder!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Vidal!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grounder stuffs the takedown attempt from Vidal. Vidal gets slowly back to his feet.
Vidal is looking to clinch but Grounder is avoiding it.
Vidal tries to clinch up.
Vidal misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Vidal pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Vidal lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Vidal shoots in but Grounder avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Grounder darts in and clinches Vidal up against the ropes.
Grounder lands with a light punch inside.
Vidal tries to pull guard but Grounder holds him up against the ropes and eventually Vidal drops back down to his feet.
Stu Grounder has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Vidal.
Grounder lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the ropes.

Vidal is fighting off a takedown attempt but Grounder is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Vidal to the mat. Vidal regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Grounder gets to his feet - Vidal follows without any prompting.
A right-left combo lands from Vidal.

Grounder looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Vidal won't allow Grounder to pass to mount.

Grounder knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Vidal on the ground.
Grounder slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Vidal is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Grounder seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Vidal escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Grounder gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Vidal wants to sweep here but Grounder controlling him for the moment.

Vidal had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Grounder is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Vidal Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Grounder's back instead.
Vidal looks gassed!
Grounder is really stuck here.

Vidal is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Grounder's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Grounder wants to control from the top but Vidal keeps moving.
Grounder is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Vidal is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Vidal is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That was a close round but I would say that Stu Grounder will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

Vidal jumps guard but Grounder stands there with Vidal around his waist. Vidal gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Vidal tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Grounder is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Grounder throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Grounder turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Vidal is trying to improve his position.
Vidal sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Vidal is breathing heavily.

Grounder wants to take a breather but Vidal is having none of it.
Grounder is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Vidal is looking to improve his position.
Grounder keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Grounder seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vidal does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Vidal tries to roll over but Grounder keeps him under control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Grounder shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Vidal has his foot on Grounder's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Grounder works his way back into a safe position though.

Grounder is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Grounder stays in close to Vidal's body and controls the position.

Vidal looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Vidal is looking for a triangle but Grounder pushes his legs off easily.

Grounder wants to get up but he can't break Vidal's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Vidal is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Vidal is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
John Vidal has got the better of the ground game so far.
Grounder tries to kick Vidal off but Vidal keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Vidal is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Grounder defends it well.

Grounder on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Grounder tries to get out of the position.
Grounder has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Vidal is working away from the top position though.

Vidal wants to work for an arm triangle but Grounder is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That was a close second round but I would say that Stu Grounder will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Grounder moves into range and clinches up with Vidal.

Grounder turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Grounder manages to end up in side control.
Vidal is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Grounder is looking to take a break and control but Vidal is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Vidal gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Grounder is just content to waste time from the top position. Vidal takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Vidal looking to break Grounder's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Grounder remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Vidal will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Vidal controlling well, preventing Grounder from escaping the position.

Vidal has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Grounder has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Grounder is trying to defend against the choke here but Vidal has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Vidal Tightens the hold and Grounder taps out furiously! Vidal displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
