Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Angelo Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brick Mortensen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brick Mortensen has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Angelo Charles's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Angelo Charles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brick Mortensen!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Joseph Jones and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mortensen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Mortensen has Charles pressed against the cage, preventing Charles from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Mortensen content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Charles's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Charles tries to break the clinch but Mortensen is controlling the position.
Mortensen is looking to take this one to the mat.
Mortensen has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Charles after a bit of a struggle.
Mortensen has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Charles is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Angelo Charles has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brick Mortensen.

Mortensen's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
The referee is keeping an eye on Charles - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Charles wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Mortensen has picked Charles up - he's going for a ride! Mortensen dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Still in half guard, Mortensen seems content to control.

Mortensen wants to free his trapped foot but Charles is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Mortensen passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Charles!
Mortensen tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.

Mortensen moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Charles has worked his arm free - good work by Charles!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mortensen is trying to control the action in half guard but Charles is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Mortensen works his way into full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mortensen is stalling here but it's allowed Charles to get half guard.

Mortensen trying to pass the guard but Charles defending well.
Still in half guard, Mortensen seems content to control.

Charles manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Mortensen keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Mortensen will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Charles up against the cage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mortensen is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Charles pulls him back up using the underhooks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brick Mortensen dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Charles tries to close the distance and clinch but Mortensen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
No luck for Mortensen with that takedown attempt.
Brick Mortensen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Mortensen counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Mortensen tries to free his leg and advance position but Charles is retaining full guard.
Charles might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Charles wants to control the position but Mortensen says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Mortensen is looking to advance position but Charles won't allow it.

Mortensen is looking for a kimura but Charles is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mortensen to get the leverage.
Mortensen wants to take a breather but Charles is having none of it.

Mortensen is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Charles sees it coming and defends easily.
Charles wants to get back to his feet.
Mortensen moves into full mount! Charles won't be happy about that!
Charles is trying desperately to improve position.
Mortensen is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
Mortensen wants to control the pace but Charles is squirming around nicely.

Mortensen is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Charles is surviving well by controlling Mortensen's body position as best he can.
Charles is looking to get to half guard.
Brick Mortensen has got the better of the ground game so far.

Mortensen goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Charles is on top in guard.
Mortensen is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Mortensen looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Charles has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Charles accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Charles got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mortensen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Charles has managed to get both his arms back between Mortensen's legs - danger averted.
Charles is looking to work some ground and pound but Mortensen has wrist control.

Mortensen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Charles gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mortensen is breathing heavily.

Mortensen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Charles doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Charles manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Charles drops back looking for a leg! Mortensen is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mortensen manages to kick Charles off! Charles jumps back into Mortensen's guard.
Mortensen lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Charles!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mortensen goes for an armbar but Charles turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Charles.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brick Mortensen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Mortensen tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mortensen tries to control but Charles wriggling away.

Mortensen is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Charles can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Mortensen looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Charles is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Mortensen is working for a guillotine from mount but Charles frees his head quite easily.
Charles is working to get back to half guard.

Mortensen has hold of Charles's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Charles manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Mortensen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Mortensen wants to get back to his feet but Charles is holding on tight.
Brick Mortensen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Brick Mortensen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
