PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rufus Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sweeney Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott has chosen Blitz - Someone's Gonna Die as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rufus Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sweeney Scott!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Sandra Marshall and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scott misses with a double jab.
Lee tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Scott manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Scott lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Lee bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Scott lands a jab to the nose.
Nice defenses there by Lee.

Scott has managed to clinch.

Lee breaks the clinch.
Lee fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Rufus Lee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scott just misses with a punch to the body.

Scott has taken the fight to the clinch.
Scott has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Scott.

Lee gets control of Scott's arms and successfully pulls guard. Lee will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lee has a closed guard, preventing Scott from standing up.

Scott gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Lee closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Scott's guard.
Lee cracks Scott with a solid left hand.
Lee makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Lee chips away with some ground and pound.
Scott looks winded!
Lee lands a couple of elbows.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lee working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Lee postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Lee connects with a couple of short punches.
Lee makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Lee drops back looking for a leg! Scott is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Scott manages to kick Lee off! Lee jumps back into Scott's guard.

Scott really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lee. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lee is working Scott over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Scott wants to stand and escape but Lee is having none of it.

Lee drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Lee seems to have locked his on tight now - Scott screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Lee, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Rufus Lee!
In his post fight interview, Rufus Lee started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
