Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Khari Irish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Gram (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jay Gram!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Dirk Anderson and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Irish works over Gram's head and body with a nice combination.
A head kick misses from Irish.

Irish clinches.
With the fighters up against the cage, Irish throws an elbow but misses.
Gram has had enough of the clinch but Irish keeps him there for the moment.
Gram taking a break, stalling in the clinch.

Gram gets control of Irish's arms and successfully pulls guard. Gram will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Irish wants to stand but Gram is controlling his posture from full guard.
Irish won't allow Gram to get back to his feet.
Irish passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

Gram is looking for a sweep. Irish is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Irish wants to stand up but Gram is controlling the position.
Irish looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Gram is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Well, if Irish is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Gram misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Irish passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Gram!
Gram is in a horrible position here. Irish smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Irish lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Irish tries to control but Gram wriggling away.
Irish has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Irish tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gram is trying desperately to improve position.

Irish has control of Gram's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Gram regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Irish scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Gram?
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gram tries to lock up and control but Irish gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gram sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Irish wants to free his trapped foot but Gram is holding on for dear life with his legs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Irish's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Gram wants to clinch up but Irish keeps it at a distance.

Irish looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gram is fending him off so far but Irish persists. Nope, Gram circles away and we're back to standing.
Irish shoots for a takedown but Gram saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Gram fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Irish has a takedown stuffed.

Irish is looking to stand up but Gram isn't so interested in that idea.
Irish is trying to control the position but Gram postures up.
Gram must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Gram is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Irish is defending well.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Irish here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Gram pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Gram shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Irish is trying to defend but Gram finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Gram is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Gram wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Irish uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A close second round but Jay Gram will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Irish takes the fight into the clinch.
Gram fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Irish jumps guard but Gram stands there with Irish around his waist. Irish gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Gram bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Irish on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Irish tries to get out of the position.
Irish is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Gram's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Gram seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Irish does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Gram wants to control from the top but Irish keeps moving.
Irish might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jay Gram wasn't active enough on the ground.
Gram tries to close the distance and clinch but Irish swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Gram takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Irish controls the position for a moment.
Gram wants to stand but Irish is controlling his arm.

Gram decides to stand back up. Gram steps back and let's Irish get back to his feet.

Irish breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Gram enables Irish to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Gram manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Irish wanted to stand there but Gram had control of the position.
Irish landing with the ground and pound.
Gram is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Irish is controlling him.
Irish slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Irish keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Gram's head.
Irish lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Irish is looking to stand up but Gram won't let him.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well Irish has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
