Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Leland Kirby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Geno Smith!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kirby takes the fight into the clinch.
Smith looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Smith has had enough of the clinch but Kirby keeps him there for the moment.
Smith stalling in the clinch but Kirby improves position.
Smith stalls.
Smith misses with a body punch.

Kirby breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Smith stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Smith wants it to stay on the feet.
Kirby fails in his attempt to clinch.
Kirby delivers a nice body kick.
Kirby looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kirby really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Smith takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
We've been informed that Smith has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith closes the distance and clinches up with Kirby, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes Kirby against the cage but Kirby circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Smith steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Kirby. That one must have hurt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Smith enables Kirby to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Smith manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Kirby stands and steps away. Smith gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Kirby fails with an attempt to clinch.

Kirby moves into the clinch.
Smith stops a takedown attempt from Kirby.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leland Kirby. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kirby can't get the takedown.

Kirby breaks from the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kirby is looking to clinch but Smith is avoiding it.
Kirby tries to clinch up.
Geno Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kirby clinches.
Kirby working hard to break the clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kirby manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Smith has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Kirby to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Smith is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Kirby pulls down on the head and he's put Smith to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Leland Kirby!
