PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sam Stout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sheer Bum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Stout!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sheer Bum!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stout closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Stout breaks from the clinch.

Stout scores with a takedown into Bum's guard.
Stout trying to control the position from guard on top but Bum is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stout wants to pass the guard but Bum is keeping the position.

Stout is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Bum is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Bum has escaped and now he's on top!

Stout working for a triangle but Bum defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stout controlling the position.

Bum is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Stout is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Stout has escaped and now he's on top!
Bum is looking to stand up but Stout isn't so interested in that idea.
Bum lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Stout!
Stout bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bum is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Bum looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bum looking to control.
Stout wanted to stand there but Bum had control of the position.
Bum bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Stout's guard.
Stout keeping full guard, as Bum tries to pass.
Stout is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bum is controlling him.

Bum stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stout swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Stout is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Stout is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Bum trying to control but Stout is working from the bottom.

We're going to have a standup here because Sam Stout wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Bum avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Stout fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Bum to the ground. Stout is now in Bum's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stout trying to control but Bum is working from the bottom.
Stout is really struggling to control Bum but he's trying to hold on to the position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Bum manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Stout regains half guard.
Stout is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Soul Supremacy Elite Gym, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bum is trying to control. Stout wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Stout dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Stout tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bum manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Stout closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Bum's guard.

Bum is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Bum is striking from the bottom but Stout uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
Bum moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Stout stands up and waves to Bum to follow him.
Stout blocks a low kick nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Stout fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Bum to the ground. Stout is now in Bum's guard.
Bum wants to stand but Stout is controlling the position.
Bum looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Stout throws a big right hand that misses.
Stout wants to pass the guard but Bum is keeping the position.
Stout wants to control from the top but Bum keeps moving.

Stout got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bum has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Stout has managed to get both his arms back between Bum's legs - danger averted.
Bum trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Bum lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Stout!
Bum tries to control but Stout wriggling away.
Stout wants to hold on but Bum pushes him away.
My spies in Den of Tears (22 coaches, $300 fee) inform me that Bum has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Stout shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Stout showed some decent athleticism there.
Bum tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Stout has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Stout trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Stout with the ground and pound from mount.
Bum is squirming around, avoiding Stout's attempts to control the action.
Bum really wants to buck Stout off and get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stout punishing his opponent with strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bum wants to hold on but Stout pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Stout has Bum up against the cage in a clinch.

Stout is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Bum can't fight it off and eventually Stout manages to take the fight to the floor. Bum looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Stout stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bum swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bum pulls Stout in to control the position.

Bum working for a triangle but Stout defends it easily.
Stout would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stout lands a couple of elbows.
Bum keeping moving, preventing Stout from controlling successfully.
Bum looking to control.
Bum tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sam Stout.

Bum gets tackled into the cage by Stout. Stout maintains the clinch.

Stout ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Stout no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Stout has a closed guard, preventing Bum from standing up.
Bum stops Stout from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bum passes Stout's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Bum is just content to waste time from the top position. Stout takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Bum drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Stout manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Bum has Stout in his guard.
Stout is looking to work some ground and pound but Bum has wrist control.
Stout trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Stout sitting in guard here, content to control.
Bum is looking to stand up but Stout isn't so interested in that idea.
Stout looking to sit in guard and control but Bum gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Stout has a closed guard, preventing Bum from standing up.

Stout working for a triangle but Bum defends it easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Stout wants to sweep but no luck.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well Stout has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
