Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Ronald Zubar! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Vlad Vovkov! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Phil Schofield and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zubar throws a lazy right hand but Vovkov sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Zubar misses with a two punch combination.
Vovkov displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Zubar throws out the jab. Vovkov tries for a takedown but Zubar circles away easily and Zubar counters with a straight right hand. Vovkov fails with a takedown attempt. Vovkov fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Ronald Zubar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vlad Vovkov. Vovkov takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Vovkov tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Zubar manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Vovkov looking to score a takedown here. Zubar is defending well but Vovkov drives through and ends up in Zubar's guard. Vovkov tries to free his leg and advance position but Zubar is retaining full guard. Zubar is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Vovkov trying to move into half guard but instead Zubar has managed to sweep!
That's one minute gone in the round. Vovkov working for a triangle but Zubar defends it easily.
Vovkov looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Zubar has picked Vovkov up and slammed him! Vovkov can't keep hold of the triangle and Zubar manages to pass to side control! Vovkov dodges the ground and pound from Zubar. Zubar working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Vovkov avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Zubar. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Zubar has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Vovkov drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Vovkov is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Zubar is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Zubar has escaped and now he's on top!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vovkov looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Zubar passes into half guard.
Vovkov has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Zubar. Oh but Vovkov has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Zubar goes limp - he's gone! Vovkov jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
