PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Calros Vasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maro Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maro Santos told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Calros Vasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maro Santos!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Santos decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Vasquez wants to improve his position but Santos is controlling well.
Santos seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Santos with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Santos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vasquez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Santos wants to stand up but Vasquez is controlling the position.
Santos slows the pace down in half guard.
Vasquez wants to control but Santos is keeping busy.
Vasquez is pressing down on Santos's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Santos wants to control from the top but Vasquez keeps moving.

Vasquez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Santos's head.

Santos is desperately trying to improve his position but Vasquez has a good base and remains in mount.

Vasquez has hold of Santos's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Santos manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Vasquez is trying to control the action in half guard but Santos is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Santos tries to kick Vasquez off in order to stand up. Vasquez Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Maro Santos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Maro Santos comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Santos has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
