PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mandril Cuchillero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Tiberun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jonathan Tiberun is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mandril Cuchillero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jonathan Tiberun!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Hugh Johnson and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cuchillero.

and Tiberun counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

We've been hearing good reports from Cuchillero's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Tiberun is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cuchillero doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Tiberun.

Cuchillero knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tiberun on the ground.

Cuchillero is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Tiberun's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Tiberun's back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tiberun is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Cuchillero gets his way!

Cuchillero doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Tiberun decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cuchillero's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tiberun accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Tiberun postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Cuchillero is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Tiberun, into his guard.

Cuchillero is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Cuchillero has gone for a leg lock! Tiberun slips out almost immediately though and dives into Cuchillero's guard.

Tiberun slaps away a takedown attempt from Cuchillero, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Cuchillero shoots for a double leg takedown but Tiberun sprawls well. He's pushed Cuchillero's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Cuchillero drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Tiberun dives on top into guard.

Tiberun wants to control but Cuchillero is keeping him busy.
Cuchillero is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Tiberun is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Cuchillero is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
