Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kyle Mcgrady! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Srdjan Savic! The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Patrick Alders and Nard Betker.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mcgrady tries to close the distance and clinch up but Savic swats him away and circles back towards the center. Savic lands a head kick!
Mcgrady throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Savic on the wrong end of a nice jab. Savic shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mcgrady manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Mcgrady keeping moving, preventing Savic from controlling successfully. Mcgrady is trying to keep Savic in close.
Mcgrady throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Savic must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Savic won't allow Mcgrady to sweep him here. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mcgrady is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Savic controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Savic displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mcgrady.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mcgrady wants to clinch but Savic slips to the side and Savic counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Savic. Savic lands a couple of digs. Savic wants to control from the top but Mcgrady keeps moving. Savic throwing strikes but missing. Savic trying to control but Mcgrady is working from the bottom. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mcgrady is on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Savic can't keep his opponent in guard - Mcgrady advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Savic is trying to escape back to his feet but Mcgrady uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Savic sneaks back into half guard. Savic pushes Mcgrady off looking to stand but Mcgrady dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mcgrady slips a nice elbow through Savic's hands, connecting with Savic's forehead. Savic tries to get to full guard but Mcgrady has control of the leg. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Savic can do anything to dispel that myth. Mcgrady thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mcgrady is thwarting Savic's attempts to control the position. Mcgrady missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Savic is refusing to be controlled, as Mcgrady sits in half guard. Savic is trying to stand back up but Mcgrady is controlling him
Savic is trying to maintain the position but Mcgrady is very close to passing his half guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Mcgrady looks to land a strike but Savic avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Savic wants to sweep but no luck. Mcgrady trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Mcgrady trying to stand up but can't free himself from Savic's guard. Mcgrady is in close to Savic's body, working some short punches and elbows. Mcgrady throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Savic works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Savic wants to get back to his feet but Mcgrady passes into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Savic tries to kick Mcgrady off but Mcgrady keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Savic looks winded! Mcgrady with the ground and pound but Savic uses the opportunity to regain guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Srdjan Savic dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
No luck for Mcgrady with that takedown attempt. Savic will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Horrible takedown by Savic or perhaps it was just good defense by Mcgrady which made him look bad. Mcgrady connects with a jab. Mcgrady gets tackled into the cage by Savic. Savic maintains the clinch. Savic gets a trip takedown into half guard. Savic is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Mcgrady wants to control but Savic is keeping busy and won't allow it. Savic is breathing heavily. Mcgrady regains full guard. Nicely done. Savic works over Mcgrady with some ground and pound from guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Savic is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Savic working some strikes from top position. Savic wants to control from the top but Mcgrady keeps moving. Mcgrady wants to stand but Savic is controlling the position. Savic wants to control from the top but Mcgrady keeps moving. Savic might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mcgrady haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. OK we're going to have a standup here. Srdjan Savic hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. A left and a right from Mcgrady both land. Nice combination. Savic closes the distance and clinches up with Mcgrady, looking for a takedown. Savic pushes Mcgrady against the cage but Mcgrady circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Kyle Mcgrady has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Srdjan Savic.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Savic dives in for a single leg takedown but Mcgrady sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Mcgrady manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Mcgrady keeping moving, preventing Savic from controlling successfully. Mcgrady is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mcgrady has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Savic can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Savic wants to control from the top but Mcgrady keeps moving. Savic stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mcgrady swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Savic drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mcgrady manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Savic has Mcgrady in his guard. Mcgrady postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mcgrady wants to stand but Savic is controlling his posture from full guard. Mcgrady trying to control but Savic is working from the bottom. Srdjan Savic has got the better of the ground game so far. Mcgrady tries to free his leg and advance position but Savic is retaining full guard. Mcgrady stopping the sweep attempt from Savic. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Savic wants to stand up but Mcgrady is controlling him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Kyle Mcgrady will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
