PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tomi Johnes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aoki Masaru (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tomi Johnes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Aoki Masaru!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Masaru fails with the takedown
and Johnes counters with an inside leg kick.
Masaru tries for a takedown but Johnes circles away easily

and Johnes counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Johnes.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Johnes controls from within his opponent's guard.
Johnes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Masaru tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnes passes Masaru's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Johnes tries to pass the half guard into mount. Masaru knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Johnes content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Masaru is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Johnes pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Masaru tries to get to full guard but Johnes has control of the leg.
Johnes looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Masaru with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Masaru tries to roll over but Johnes keeps him under control.
Masaru is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Johnes wants to free his trapped foot but Masaru is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Johnes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Masaru on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johnes works his way into full mount!
Masaru is trying desperately to improve position.
Johnes lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Johnes content just to control the position here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Johnes stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Johnes looks to score with a jab to the body but Masaru is just out of range.

Johnes throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Masaru tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Johnes is in Masaru's guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Johnes stands up and waves to Masaru to follow him.

Johnes shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Masaru's guard.
Johnes looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Masaru is looking for a triangle but Johnes pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Masaru fails with the takedown
and Johnes counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Masaru is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Masaru gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Johnes counters with a takedown into side control.

Johnes stands up and we're back to a striking position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Johnes cracks Masaru with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

and Johnes counters with a shoot takedown. Masaru fights it but they end up in guard.
Tomi Johnes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aoki Masaru.

Masaru is looking to cinch up a triangle. Johnes throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Masaru's body to avoid the submission. Masaru has instead reached around Johnes's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Masaru arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Aoki Masaru!
