Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joliano Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dustin Poirier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joliano Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dustin Poirier!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Poirier moves into the clinch.
Santos tries to score a body lock takedown but Poirier shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Poirier tries for a takedown but Santos manages to get underhooks.
Santos has Poirier pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Poirier manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Santos wants to break the clinch but can't.

Poirier gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Poirier content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Santos is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Poirier is controlling him.
Santos throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Santos wants to stand up but Poirier is controlling him.
Santos is trying to keep Poirier in close.

Poirier distracts Santos with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Santos wants to get back to his feet but Poirier is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Poirier postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Poirier is looking to work some ground and pound but Santos has wrist control.
Santos has his hands on Poirier's head, controlling the position.

Santos keeping moving, preventing Poirier from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Poirier engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Santos tries to land a front kick but Poirier steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Santos gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Poirier holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joliano Santos. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Santos is breathing heavily.
Santos is trying to maintain a safe position but Poirier gets an underhook and turns Santos into the cage.
Santos is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Poirier to keep the fight standing.

Poirier gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Poirier distracts Santos with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Poirier controls from within his opponent's guard.
Santos will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Poirier's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Poirier is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Santos is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Santos has escaped and now he's on top!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Poirier can do anything to dispel that myth.

Poirier escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Santos gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Poirier tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Santos is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Poirier is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Santos defends well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Poirier is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Santos shoots in for a takedown but Poirier shows good takedown defense.
Poirier shoots in but no luck this time.
Santos tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Poirier paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Joliano Santos is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Santos tries to clinch up but Poirier circles away and keeps his distance.
A low kick from Poirier is predictable there
and Santos counters with a nice low kick that buckles Poirier's knee momentarily.
Santos wants to clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Poirier looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Santos shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Poirier counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Santos tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Poirier's elbow.

Santos drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Poirier gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Santos fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Poirier lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Santos at a distance.
Santos moves in looking to clinch but Poirier pushes him off.
Santos really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Santos shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Poirier as he avoids it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Poirier wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Poirier has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Santos is trying to keep an underhook but Poirier manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Poirier tries to pass to full mount but Santos defends it.
Poirier frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Santos is in all sorts of trouble here.

Poirier is landing big shots and Santos is squirming looking to escape! He can't escape though and the ref jumps in to end the fight!
