Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between TJ McA (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Demetrious Dodson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Demetrious Dodson has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with TJ McA's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, TJ McA!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Demetrious Dodson!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Steve Erwin and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McA avoids a punch combination nicely.
Dodson tries to clinch but McA is having none of it.
Dodson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. McA manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
McA shoots and misses

so Dodson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Dodson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
McA lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Dodson!
McA looking to control and managing it successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dodson really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Dodson is desperately trying to improve his position but McA has a good base and remains in mount.

McA controlling from the full mount.
Dodson wants to hold on but McA pushes him away.
McA is landing with some decent strikes but Dodson is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Dodson gets back to half guard.
McA stops Dodson from getting back to his feet.
McA content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
McA moves into full mount! Dodson won't be happy about that!

McA raining down hammerfists from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dodson defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from McA.
Dodson tries to reverse the position but McA maintains control.
McA takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McA trying to control but Dodson is having none of it.
The referee warns Dodson that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Dodson can't escape the position.
McA tries to control but Dodson wriggling away.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dodson can do anything to dispel that myth.
McA avoids the attempt from Dodson to control.
McA tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Dodson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McA takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Dodson is trying to escape the mount.
McA raining down hammerfists from mount.
Dodson is looking to get to half guard.
McA wants to control the pace but Dodson is squirming around nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


McA shoots in but Dodson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
McA fails with a takedown attempt.
Dodson closes the distance but McA moves to the side

and McA counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by McA.
Dodson wants to get back to his feet but McA is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
McA stays in close to Dodson's body and controls the position.
McA slips nicely into half guard.
McA keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Dodson is trying to stand.
McA is keen to just control but Dodson is a slippery customer.
Dodson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Dodson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McA is working away from the top position though.
Dodson wants to get back to full guard.
McA wants to pass the guard but Dodson is defending well.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Dodson misses with a body kick.

Dodson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
McA shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Dodson counters by clinching up.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for TJ McA. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McA misses with a body punch.
Dodson changes levels and goes for a takedown here. McA fights it off and pushes away nicely.
McA moves out of range of the body kick from Dodson.

Dodson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

McA wants to stand up but Dodson is controlling him.

Demetrious Dodson has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Dodson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into McA's guard.
Dodson is looking to work some ground and pound but McA has wrist control.

Dodson wanted to stand there but McA had control of the position.
Dodson wants to stand and escape but instead McA has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Dodson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McA is aware though and is defending well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McA slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Demetrious Dodson will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Dodson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Dodson lands in his opponent's guard.

McA wants to stand up but Dodson is controlling him.
Dodson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McA swivels though and keeps the full guard.

McA wants to stand but Dodson is controlling the position.
Dodson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as McA works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Dodson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Demetrious Dodson.
Dodson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dodson wants it to stay on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McA shoots in looking for a takedown but Dodson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing McA's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for TJ McA. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

TJ McA overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dodson drops back, looking for a kneebar! McA looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. McA looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from McA!

McA wants to control but Dodson is keeping him busy.
Dodson tries to buck McA off but McA is having none of it.
Dodson is trying to control McA's posture but McA avoids it.
Dodson is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but McA is staying active.
A bit of a lull in the action here.

Dodson is trying to improve his position.
Dodson is not content to let McA control the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Dodson drives through with a takedown into McA's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

McA seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

And that's the end of the fight!
Demetrious Dodson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dodson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
